Comic Book Update 12-29-14

Shalom, bibliophiles! It's time for another comic book update, with something else that is rather strange, so let's see what I scored!

Wow, I am quite excited about these comic books. Some are going to be "readers" (i.e. comics that I read and pass along to kids), but others are going into my permanent comic book collection.

Art Prints by Jacen Burrows

Shalom, bibliophiles! I am not doing a vlog entry today. I've been busy trying to deal with "holiday" stuff; I need a vacation from the holidays (and one where I don't have to deal with my teaching responsibilities, too). Consequently, I've not shot any new vlog entries this week nor edited older ones to post for you.

However, I would like to show you something that I just received. In 2011, at the San Diego Comic Con, Avatar Press made available a limited edition, just 250 copies, Crossed art prints based on classic American art; there were seven different prints. Crossed is a comic book written by Garth Ennis and drawn by Jacen Burrows; the comic books are, sort of, a twist on the zombie-type genre (with infected persons being known as the "Crossed"). 

Each of the seven prints are signed by the artist Jacen Burrows. They are pretty wicked prints. Right now, I have them stored in heavy-duty plastic sleeves.

Those are #1 and #4. 

Those two are #5 and #6. 

The last is #7. 

I apologize about the poor lighting, but I'm remodeling rooms and this was the best light I had available (with fixtures removed and so on). Eventually, the room where I shot these images will be repainted, and I'll install new lighting, outlets, and flooring. It's my hope this room will become my "comic book" room, and I'll have these wickedly creepy prints displayed on one wall.

Comic Book and Media Update 11-9-14

Shalom, bibliophiles! Yes, I'm back-posting because I have all these vlog entries that I shot but never posted. I'm hoping to get some of them posted and shoot some new ones, now that I'm on break between semesters.

Book Update 12-3-14

Shalom, bibliophiles! Well, much like the past year, I've failed to post as often as I had planned, sigh. I'm hoping that I can post more often than every two weeks, and I'm going to take time to make sure that I'm posting vlog entries every week (ideally, it'd be several times a week, but I know that I have a lot of grading to do over the next week).

Comic Book Update 11-19-14

Shalom, bibliophiles! Well, that's a deep subject...sorry, I did not stick to my plan to post more regularly. Between my illness flaring the day after Halloween and my teaching schedule, I've just not had much time or energy to vlog and post entries. I'm still tired but feeling better, and, while the next two weeks are busy for teaching (end of the semester), I'm going to make an effort to "take time" to vlog about books and comic book because I need something to take my mind of the "real" world responsibilities and stress.

Belated Comic Book Update 8-16-14

Shalom, bibliophiles! Well, no matter what I try to do, I am just not living up to my promise of posting "lots" of vlog entries before the fall university semester commences, and that makes me feel sad. However, I am going to force myself to do a few each week, once the semester starts, until I clear out my dining room, because there's easily 50 vlog entries waiting for the books and comic books in that room. That will probably take me most of the fall to complete, so please check for new entries every few days.

Belated Comic Book Update 8-21-14

As noted in my last vlog entry, my life became more complicated due to a flood that destroyed just about everything in my basement; therefore, I've been away from my vlog (either dealing with the basement issues or sick, yeah, sick again). Let's leave all that behind and see what comic books I scored:

Comic Book Update 8-12-14

Shalom, bibliophiles! Well, I shot this vlog entry on Tuesday, 8/12/14, but I didn't have time to edit and polish it until today, Saturday, because of the flood that occurred. Yes, after I shot that video, I spent most of the week looking over the damage, photographing the damage, getting a contractor to do the cleanup (I couldn't because of my skin disease), moving a few things myself, and spending hours on the phone (and email) contacting the insurance company. As of now, Saturday, 95% of my belongings from the basement are gone (well, out at the curb for trash pickup), the mechanicals (furnace, hot water heater, washer, and dryer) remain in the basement for an assessment of functionality on Monday, and the basement has been cleaned and sanitized (although more cleaning will occur). I'm so very sad, but I am doing my best to keep it together. Another reason that I took a while to edit this vlog entry was sleep because I did not sleep from Sunday night until Thursday night, so I was not "functional" for editing and posting the vlog entry. 

Well, let's see what comic books I scored:

The posting time just depends on what happens over the next few days because I have work, related to the flooded basement, to accomplish, but I am going to post them, for sure, before next Wednesday.

Comic Book Update Part Three 8-7-14

Shalom, bibliophiles! Well, I finally found time to complete the last part of this massive comic book update; I was going to post it Monday, but 6 inches of rain fell and my basement flooded (with over 18 inches of water). Things are not good: I will lose just about everything that was in my basement, and I am still waiting on a contractor to come do removal and clean up. I have been in a state of anxiety and panic for two days now, sigh, but that's life, eh? 

Okay, so, here is Part Three:

Shalom, bibliophiles! This video was shot 4 weeks ago, but, due to video software problems, health problems, and teaching, I could not figure out how to post this vlog entry. I am hoping that I've figured out, at least, the software issues. So, let's see which comic book I scored:

Update from 4-29-14

Shalom, bibliophiles! 

Alas, I've not posted a vlog entry or other material for a long time; the past few months have not been good. Besides helping a sick family member from Christmas into February, I became very ill, again, from my disease. Around the end of March, however, I started feeling a bit better, but I've faced two problems: 1) I'm very busy with teaching responsibilities for my spring courses, and 2) I'm having difficulty figuring out the update of my video software (iMovie). I really loved the older version of iMovie, but this new update has me completely confused and frustrated. At first, I was unable to shoot video for vlog entries, and, now, while I figured out that problem, I cannot edit the video I shoot, which is a big problem. 

Therefore, today, I am only posting two pictures. 

That is the front and back cover of Spartacus, a single issue comic book, from 1960. We see photographs of Kirk Douglas from the movie, I believe. The interior, however, is not material from the film, but typical four-color comic book stuff, done by the late John Buscema. Comic book readers will likely know the work of Buscema, from his "sword and sandal" Conan the Barbarian to Avengers and the Silver Surfer. The comic does not appear to have been properly stored, but it's in pretty good condition, still. I bagged and boarded the comic book, and it will go into my collection of Dell Comic Books, a small part of my collection, which includes issue #3 of Mission Impossible. 

Well, that is all for now. I'm hoping, if I get some free time later this week, to spend a few hours monkeying around with iMovie and hope to learn how to edit materials, so I can post vlog entries (as I do have a dozen or so shot). Thanks for stopping by, and please stop by again.
